Rootly Kids is built for children, so privacy isn’t a checkbox for us — it’s the product. We are registered with the ICO and designed to the Age-Appropriate Design Code (AADC).
Who we are
Rootly is the data controller for the parent account and the child profiles within it. You can reach our data team at privacy@getrootly.ai.
What we collect
- Account data — parent name, email, and billing status (we don’t store full card numbers; payments are handled by our PCI-compliant processor).
- Child profile — first name or nickname, year group, and the subjects you choose.
- Learning activity — questions attempted, answers, time on task, and the progress signals that power the weekly synthesis.
Why we use it
To run the daily practice, to generate the parent dashboard and weekly report, and to keep the service safe and working. We rely on contract (delivering the service you signed up for) and legitimate interest (keeping it secure) as our lawful bases.
We never use a child’s learning data to train advertising models, and we never sell it. Full stop.
Children’s data
The kid app contains no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no open chat. Children don’t have their own logins or email — a parent creates and controls each profile. We apply data minimisation: if we don’t need it to help a child learn, we don’t collect it.
Who we share with
A short, audited list of processors (hosting, payments, transactional email). Each is bound by a data-processing agreement. We share a read-only progress view with a tutor or teacher only when you explicitly invite them, and they never see billing.
Your rights
You can access, export or delete your family’s data at any time from Settings → Privacy & AI, or by emailing us. We respond to verified requests within one month, as required by UK GDPR. See our data export & deletion guide.
