Rootly

About Rootly

Built by parents and teachers who wanted better answers.

Why we made Rootly, and what we believe about how children actually learn.

Why we started

It started with a workbook nobody wanted to open.

Rootly began the way most homework fights do: a child who dreaded the practice book, and a parent who couldn’t tell whether any of it was working. School reports came twice a year, said “making good progress”, and offered nothing to act on.

So we built the thing we wished existed: fifteen calm, adaptive minutes a day for the child, and one honest page a week for the parent — mapped to what their school actually teaches. No stars that mean nothing. No homework wars. No report black box.

The Rootly founders working together at a kitchen table, laptop open and a whiteboard of early sketches behind them.

What we believe

Four stances we’d defend in any classroom.

Belief 01

15 focused minutes beats an hour of busywork.

Short, adaptive, every day. Consistency and the right next question matter far more than volume. A worksheet your child rushes teaches nothing.

Belief 02

Parents deserve to know what’s working — weekly, not termly.

You shouldn’t wait six months to learn your child is stuck on regrouping. If we know at the weekend, you should too — in plain English, in under a minute.

Belief 03

Screen time isn’t the enemy. Wasted screen time is.

We hold the kids’ app to a hard line: no ads, no autoplay, no infinite scroll, no upsells. When the daily set is done, it gently says so and stops.

Belief 04

The right kind of habit is worth more than any feature.

A child who opens Rootly on a Saturday because they want to has already won. Streaks and Sprout exist to build that pull — never to manufacture guilt.
